Ceramic Coated Pipes are manufactured by applying a special refractory coating on the inside and outside of mild steel pipe. Depending upon the normal bore of the pipe one or two refractory coats are applied on inside of the pipe. On outside the number of coats ranges between 3 to 5. This improves the resistance of the Ceramic Coated Pipes to the attack of liquid metal & slag. It is used in Electric Arc Furnace for Oxygen as well as Argon Lancing.
The coating increases the life of the pipe in operation and offers the following advantages:
a. Lower lancing time.
b. Lower Oxygen consumption due to improved effective lancing.
c. Saves times otherwise wasted in changing pipes.
d. Lower inventory of pipes in the stores.
